— 01 · The Brief

A proper deli counter, in place of a stall.

The Covent Garden, a retail complex in English Harbour, St. Paul's, engaged FRagments Architecture to design and deliver a new deli counter — replacing an informal food stall with a dedicated, purpose-built retail environment. The commission was full service, start to finish: interior architecture, FF&E sourcing and procurement, purchasing, project management, and staging.

The brief was commercial and specific — a counter that could hold and display product properly, built for daily retail use, inside an existing retail building.

— 02 · The Approach

Built to the drawing.

The design set out a warm, market-hall material palette — timber cladding, patterned tile flooring, and glazed display cases — built to give the deli's product proper visibility and a counter that could carry its own identity within the wider retail floor. Pendant lighting and open shelving were sized to hold stock cleanly rather than crowd it.

Because the same team handled sourcing, purchasing, and staging alongside the design, the fixtures, tile, and millwork specified in the drawings are what was actually sourced and installed — the built counter matches the design intent directly, rather than being value-engineered away from it during construction.

Specify it.
Source it. Build it.

— 03 · The Record

Design and delivery, in one hand.

Completed in 2024, the deli counter is a small commercial commission handled the same way as the studio's larger civic and heritage work — design carried all the way through to procurement, purchasing, and staging, so what gets built matches what was drawn. It's a compact demonstration of the practice's full-service delivery, applied at retail scale.

Alongside the studio's heritage and civic portfolio, it shows the range of scale FRagments works at — from a national restoration to a single counter, with the same standard of care.
